Showtime has ordered a TV series for american gigolo, its long-in-the-work series adaptation, along with the former Punisher John Bernthalli Linked to the star and production. show will be made by David Hollander, Paramount TV Studios, and Jerry Bruckheimer Television.
Paramount TV originally teamed up with Jerry Bruckheimer to grow in 2014 American Gigolo: The Series. Bruckheimer produced the original 1980 film, written and directed by Paul Schrader, which starred Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton. The project was set up on Showtime in 2016 Neil LaBute as author. Since then it has gone through several versions during development. The project, authored and EP with Hollander and starring Bernthal, received a pilot order at Showtime in March 2020. The TV series, written and directed by Hollander, will be an updated reboot of the film. Bernthal plays Julian Kaye, a former thief who gets a job in the Los Angeles sex industry after serving a 15-year sentence for murder. The rest of the cast includes Rosie O’Donnell as Homicide Detective Sunday, Lizzie Brochere As the sex work ring heir Isabel, Gabriel LaBelle as a younger version of Julian named Johnny, and Leland Orsay As Richard Stratton, a self-made tech billionaire. wayne brady Lorenzo also guest-stars as Julian’s best friend and mentor. Hollander will be the showrunner, which certainly gets him an executive producer credit. Bruckheimer will executive produce with Jonathan Littman and Christy Anne Reid. Bernthal will also receive producer credit. The series will be produced by Paramount Television Studios for Showtime.
