Plans to make a fourth “Before” film are on hold until Delpy changes his mind. Collected
Last year, Ethan Hawke revealed that a fourth “Before” film was in development and that Julie Delpy was in talks to reprise her role.
Director Richard Linklater’s “Before” trilogy, starring Ethan Hawke and July Delpy in lead roles, has stood the test of time and proved to be one of the most enduring series of romance films.
In 2020, Ethan Hawke revealed that a fourth “Before” film was in development and that Julie Delpy was in talks to reprise her role.
However, in a recent interview with Telerama, Delpy put an end to all speculations about the new film.
The actress revealed that she had already turned down the project due to her plans for early retirement and her disappointment with the film industry.
“I often think about leaving the industry,” Delpy said. “A year and a half ago, I was not far from it. The hell I went through to produce my movie [‘My Zoe’] I was tired I turned down Richard Linklater for the fourth part of the ‘Before’ movies. I thought maybe I could go back to school. For example, I would be a very good doctor. You give me three traits, and I’ll tell you what you’re suffering from… But I like to make up stories; It’s stronger than me.”
Though the actress has decided not to retire, she said that she is not coming back for the new film ‘Before’.
“I’m still struggling. Without stopping. I have too many movies in my drawer that will never be shot, if you only knew! I’m fed up.”
Plans to make a fourth “Before” film have been shelved until Delpy changes his mind.
