JJ Abrams is ready to get to the bottom of unidentified flying objects, and Showtime is giving him the platform to do so. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Glenn Zipper are behind “UFO”, a four-part docu-series that will look at the occurrence of mysterious objects in the sky and “what lurking effects they could have on the US government, lucrative private companies, and the military”. Preserving the truth behind supernatural events to advance one’s own agenda. “
Mark Monroe (“Icarus”) and Paul Crowder (“Riding Giants”) will direct the series, a new focus on what the government knows about UFOs, and what it may or may not tell us. The series comes in the wake of a 2017 New York Times article that revealed that the Pentagon had been secretly tracking UFOs for years.
The Pentagon has also made public some footage of events such as the time in 2015 that US Navy pilots saw objects moving and changing direction in indescribable ways. A recently released classified government report on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) – known as UFOs – doesn’t clarify anything, only to confirm that no one knows what these things are.
Per Showtime, “UFO” will explore the “unstable theories” of a topic that has recently hit national headlines, and has historically been the focus of powerful politicians and CEOs, while adhering to the same truth. Average citizens have been ridiculed and ostracized. Bad Robot and Zipper Bros Films will produce the series for Showtime; All four episodes will be uploaded at midnight on Sunday, August 8, and will premiere later that night at 9 p.m. ET on The Linear Channel.
According to Showtime, “the series examines the history of the event through cultural and political touch points, including shocking testimony from eyewitnesses from across the country.” “As conversations become more bizarre and credible investigations into alien encounters reach the mainstream, UFOs face the most puzzling questions of all: Why do we believe what we believe? What is the elusive truth beyond the long mystery?”
“UFO” is executive produced by Ben Stephenson and Rachel Roush Rich from Bad Robot with JJ Abrams, Glen Zipper, Mark Monroe and Sean Stuart. The series is produced by Kevin Lincoln and co-executive produced by Maran Domzelski and Paul McGuire.
