Add or remove inbox categories and tabs in Gmail – Computer

Sort your emails in different inbox tabs, such as Social or Promotions. When you open Gmail, you don’t need to see all the emails at once.

Add or Remove Category Tabs

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. At the top right, Settings. click on Adjustment and then see all settings.
  3. press inbox tab.
  4. In the “Inbox type” section, select omission. Note: To hide all tabs, select a different inbox type.
  5. In the “Categories” section, check the boxes for the tabs you want to show. Note: You cannot create new tabs; You can show or hide only existing ones.
  6. Scroll down, then click save Changes.

pay attention: If you have notifications turned on, you will only receive notifications about emails in your primary category.

1. To add an email, drag it to the Category tab.
2. To move all future emails from that sender to that category, click the pop-up notification in the bottom left Yes.

Can’t find email in any category

Archived emails will not show their category tab.

To find emails you’ve archived, search for email in the box at the top of the page.

Type Category: Then the name of the category before your search term.

For example, Category:Social Party shows you emails in the Social tab that contain “party”.

These categories can be used in searches even if the category is not currently enabled as a tab:

  • Important—Emails from people you know and messages that don’t appear in the Other tab.
  • Social—Messages from social networks and media-sharing sites.
  • promotion-Deals, offers and other promotional emails.
  • Update-Notifications, Confirmations, Receipts, Bills and Statements.
  • forums—Messages from online groups, discussion boards and mailing lists.
  • reservation—flight confirmations, hotel bookings and restaurant reservations.
  • Purchase– Order, shipping and delivery email.

Tip: “Reservations” and “Shopping” cannot be enabled as tabs, but can be used in searches and filters.

turn off promotional bundling

If you use the default inbox type, Gmail bundles promotional emails under the Promotions tab.

Turn off this setting:

  1. Open Gmail.
  2. At the top right, Settings. click on Adjustment and then see all settings.
  3. Click inbox and then Uncheck “Enable bundling of top promo emails in promotions”.

Change notifications for each category

You can choose different notifications for each category. Learn more about notifications.

Can’t turn on inbox categories

If you have more than 250,000 messages in your inbox, you won’t be able to turn on inbox categories.

To fall below this limit, you can archive or delete messages.

Check the number of messages in your inbox

In Gmail, replies to a message are grouped into conversations. In your inbox, you’ll see the number of conversations you’ve had, but not messages.

To see how many messages you have in your inbox, follow these steps:

  1. On your computer, open Gmail. You can’t find your total number of messages from the Gmail app.
  2. At the top right, Settings. click on Adjustment and then Adjustment.
  3. Scroll down to the “Conversation View” section.
  4. Choose conversation view off.
  5. At the bottom of the page, click save Changes.
  6. Go back to your inbox to see the number of messages you have. If you have multiple sections or categories, be sure to add the number of each section together.
  7. When you’re done, go back to Settings and turn on “Conversation View.”
